    AmLactin Ultra Hydrating Body Cream

Cannot Compare to Amlactin Moisturizing Lotion (12% Lactic Acid)

I absolutely adore Amlactin Moisturizing Lotion (12% Lactic Acid) and had such high hopes for this product, which is much pricier. In terms of softening, hydrating and evening out my skin tone, there was no comparison. Amlactin XL Moisturizing Lotion is ineffective on my skin. This was a big waste of money.

  • Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 45

Like everyone else, intially, I fell in love with this product. I purchased it in SPF 30. It was matte, lightweight, sheer and left no white film.... perfect for my oily dark skin. When I first reviewed it, I gave it a "10." This year, however, I purchased it in SPF 100 and noticed a difference in formulation. It does not spread as easily and the white film takes longer to dissipate. If your skin is not absolutely dry prior to applying the product, it's almost impossible for the white film to disappear. Perhaps, this is more evident on dark skin. Also, the scent, though bearable, is rather unpleasant. For now, I prefer La Roche Posay's sheer liquid sunblock in 50 SPF.

  • L'Oreal Paris Extra-Volume Hydra Collagen Plumping Mascara

This mascara was better than I expected. It's the best drug store mascara I have bought in years and outranks many department store mascaras. I liked the rich, dark, creamy formulation, which did not dry out my lashes or look spidery. However, you need a few coats in order to get a thick dramatic look. I was hoping for more volume and a thicker formulation. I don't feel the oversized brush is an asset, but compared to the "hard to use" lash combs on the market, it's a cinch to use.

  • Bourjois Volume Clubbing Mascara

This mascara was a complete waste of money and time. After multiple coats, there was no discernible volume. I could have achieved the same result from some .99 cent drug store mascara. As a past user of YSL's Faux Cils and the original Diorshow and the now discontinued Chanel Instant Lash and Lancome Intencils, I know what volume looks like and this ain't it. Even L'Oreal's Voluminous knocks this one out the park.

  • Banana Boat Sport Performance Lotion Sunscreen with PowerStay Technology SPF 50

I purchased this product with high hopes, but was disappointed. It did little to prevent my skin frrom tanning, especially on my arms, chest and back. The Neutrogena product I use for my face and neck was more effective. One last thing....this product is technically a sunscreen, not sunblock.

  • Pur Minerals Mineral Shea Butter Lipstick

I absolutely love this lipstick in "Black Amethyst," which I purchased at Ulta. I tend to be easily bored and rarely purchase the same shade twice. This color was the exception. It is a soft wine shade and has the right amount of pigment and moisture for a sheer lipstick. The natural color of my top and bottom lips differ significantly, but I don't need a lipliner when using this product. It is a far more beautiful color than "Clinique's Black Honey."

  • L'Oreal Paris HiP Studio Secrets Professional Color Truth Cream Eyeliner

L'Oreal kicked butt with this product, beautiful and intensely pigmented shades. Yes, the brush is crap, but I don't hold that against the cream eyeliner itself, which is way better than many department store brands, including Stila, and comparable to MAC. It is also versatile enough to use as eyeshadow. Just use a different brush and keep the product tightly capped to avoid drying out.

    Dior Diorshow Black Out

    Not the Best Volumizing Mascara

I like this mascara better than the original "Diorshow," which I find to be drying. My lashes looked dark, defined and soft. The problem is that it is no where near as volumizing as advertised. I honestly get a fuller look from the original "L'Oreal Voluminous." I also found the formulation to be rather sticky and the black color is not any darker than other mascaras. Also, while I generally prefer larger brushes, this one was a bit too large.

  • Lancome Fatale Mascara

    Lancome Fatale Mascara

    Not the Best

Lancome has yet to make a mascara as volumizing as the discontinued "Intencils." Fatale is one of the better offerings in recent years, but it did not give me the volume I wanted and I found the wand to be a disappointment. Yes, I was able to "work" the 3D comb, but who wants to spend that much time fussing? The only benefit of the 3D comb is that it does pack the mascara on your lashes, which makes for a more itense look. That said, the concept could have been better executed.

  • Manic Panic Luscious Matte Lipstick

    Manic Panic Luscious Matte Lipstick

    Great Formulation & Pigment Rich

You don't have to be into the "punk or gothic" look to try this makeup line. They have lots of standard colors and my personal favorite is "ebony rose," a deep rich shade of cranberry/wine/red. I love it because it is a truly dark blue-based red color without a trace of purple or brown. Not too many companies make matte lipsticks any more, which is a shame, because the look is more intense and pigment rich, a definite plus for women of color. Best of all, this formulation is not drying in the least.
