  • Maybelline New York Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Washable Mascara

Earlier this year, I had heard a lot of hype surrounding Maybelline's latest Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length mascara. There was buzz all about the beauty blogs I read, and the magazine advertisements were enticing. When I saw the mascara on sale at Rite-Aid for $4 off, I snapped it up and was nearly trembling with excitement. It took me two weeks to open the package and finally try it. In the nearly 5 months that I've been using this mascara, I have not become impressed or a huge fan. Although the color is very dark and it does give you great length, it takes forever to dry. I often find myself with smears after I blink although it has been over 5 minutes since application. I'm a busy working mom and I need my make-up to work quickly. Maybe if the formula wasn't so wet, I'd give it more stars. I'm going back to Maybelline's Lash Discovery (it coats every single hair, separates, colors, and you don't have to wait for a sale to buy it!)

    Benefit hello flawless!

A Light Cover Up That Gets the Job Done

I had the opportunity to try the Hello Flawless powder, which I liked. It went on so light and so airy that I was wondering if any product had actually gotten on my brush. lol. I didn’t like the brush that came with it, so I used one of my own face powder brushes. Now that the weather is warm and I have more color to my face, I lightly dusted a bronzer over the powder so it wouldn’t appear to light. In the winter, I’d probably wear it alone. As a black woman, I probably should have chosen a darker color When I washed my face at night, there wasn’t a lot of product left on my washcloth so it is indeed a light product.

Avon MagiX Face Perfector SPF 20

An Affordable Primer that Keeps You Shine Free

For the past three months, I’ve been using Avon’s new primer called MagiX Face Perfector SPF 20. I am simply in love with it. I ordered it from Avon’s website, and got it at an introductory price of $7.99. (I ordered two tubes!) This wonderful primer has kept my otherwise greasy t-zone looking semi-matte all day at work. It has even worked during some of the most humid days New York City’s Indian summer threw at me. Although I sometimes feel like my face is very shiny, the mirror tells me different. Many of the reviewers online said that it can be worn without a moisturizer underneath. I only recommend this if your skin does not feel dry after you wash it. MagiX claims to reduce the appearance of pores with “patent-pending Optix [sic] Light-Diffusing Technology”; block shine for up to 10 hours (at least 6 hours for me); reduces the look of fine lines; and makes skin feel softer. I can testify that this is pretty much true for me. The topping on the cake is it has SPF 20, which is added aging protection. It is also one of the most affordable primers out there.

CoverGirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Liquid Makeup

    Best Liquid Foundation I've Used

This is the best liquid foundation I've used. I received full coverage using a foundation brush without looking cakey. The spice brown color was a near perfect match. Although I was pregnant and the hormones were wrecking my face, no one could notice the shine or dark marks with this foundation. It lasts well in humid weather, and doesn't feel too heavy. Blends well,

CoverGirl Queen Collection Vibrant Hue Color Lipstick

    Good Quality Long Lasting Lipstick

I love CoverGirl Queen Collection lipsticks because they go on smooth and moist. I get plenty of coverage with just one or two swipes. The colors are really complementary to my African-American skin color. I really like the Plum Platinum because it is a more glamarous version of a neutral mauve lipstick. It has a bit of shimmer to it. Layer the Queen Collection lipstick over your favorite lip liner, and you will pretty much have color for the entire workday.

  • Sally Hansen Color Quick Fast Dry Nail Color Pen

Sally Hansen Color Quick Fast Dry Nail Color Pen

It Does What It Says & Is Convenient Too.

Normally, I wouldn't spend more than $3 for a bottle of nail polish since I'm into trendy colors and rarely finish a bottle, but I decided to splurge and try the new Sally Hansen Quick Color nail polish pen. It cost about $7.50. I was able to do one hand very quickly at my desk at work. I applied one coat and got a very nice coverage. The smell wasn't as strong as typical nail polish, and it did dry quickly without smudging. The pen was easy to handle and it only took 2-3 clicks to start the nail polish to flow. It is so convenient especially since I have two toddlers, and I rarely have the time to paint my nails. I purchased the nail pen at my local Walgreens, and the colors the carry are: clear, lt. biege, red, orange, blue, and black. I bought orange which is a more dark coral color on the nails as opposed to a bright pumpkin orange. In the package, the red was more dark, blue-based red. I only gave it 8-stars because I'm not sure how long it will last before it chips, but touch ups should be a breeze.

    Olay Age Defying Classic Cleanser

    My Favorite Facial Cleanser

Now that I'm firmly into my '30s and have suffered through the hormonal changes of pregnancy, I've started an anti-aging routine. I wash every day with Olay's Age Defying Daily Renewal Cleanser. It cleans my face without drying but doesn't leave a sticky residue. I've also been moisturizing with the tradional Oil of Olay lotion. My face feels smooth and the fine lines that were developing have not advanced. I love this 1 to 2 punch from Olay. Also, just a dime size amount of the cleanser and the lotion really will do.

Swirl, Buff, Tap Your Way to A Flawless Face

Bare Escentuals is an excellent powder foundation especially if you have large pores or oily skin, like I do. I haven't slept in it nor do I suffer from severe acne, but the product is as good as the creator of it says. Using the kabuki brush, I am able to "swirl, tap, buff" my way to a flawless looking face. If the powder feels heavy on your skin, you probably used too much. Make sure you use it in a bright room or a room with a lot of natural light.

Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss

A Great Long-lasting, Moisturizing, and Non-Goopy Lip Gloss

When I was pregnant last winter, Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss was my lips life saver. The further into I got into my pregnancy, the stuffier my nose became. I was forced to breathe through my mouth, and my lips suffered the consequences. They became dry and flakey, and they craved more moisture than I could consume by ust drinking water. Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss is wonderful: long lasting, moisturizing, and it wasn't goopy. It also smelled delicious.

    It Does What it Says

I've done very well with Cover Girl Foundations--especially Aquasmooth and TruBlend. Of the two, my favorite foundation is Cover Girl's TruBlend in Soft Sable and Toasted Almond. Even if you go up or down a shade, it will still match your skintone well. It goes on light, covers up imperfections, gives you a smooth look, and is not greasy. Not to mention, it cost less than $10 in the drugstores and a little goes along way. I usually apply mine with a little sponge or a foundation brush.
