I'm 33 and have very very oily skin. I'm always shiny no matter what I do, I'm also blackhead and acne prone. The best facial scrub so far for me has been Proactiv. Nothing else has made a difference in my breakouts, so I'm happy with that. Now here's the thing...I'm seeing wrinkles. I want nothing more that to put on heavy duty anti wrinkle creams twice a day every day, but I don't want a pizza face.....again Is there anything I can use to preserve my skin without ruining it with more acne?
12 RepliesEven I had acne skin 3-4 years. Tried all creams, face wash but did not got any relief. Thne I decided to not to do anything. I simply sprinkled water on my face at night. Continued the same thign for about 4-5 months. Believe me this is the only technique that had worked for me, No other cream face washh had worked for me.
Sounds as if you have over dried your skin with products. The wrinkles have come about due to the lack of your natural sebum that is being stripped from your skin. Don't use anything harsh for awhile which should enable your skin to "detox" itself. My suggestion is to use the cleansing oil method to wash your face twice a day to start. Yes I know your skin is very oily, etc but I have the same problem you do and this has worked for me for a number of years. Use your regular moisturizer and follow with a sunscreen. You can find several recipes online for the method. Stick with a basic formula of Olive oil and grapeseed or castor oil. Make sure the ingredients you buy are cold pressed or organic so you get a quality product. Try your local health food store for them. It might do you some good to try this for a week at least. I hope this helps.
I agree that you've probably over-dried your skin, which is making your wrinkles seem more prominent. I'd stay away from any harsh cleansers or creams for a while - look into some organic products for oily skin or try the natural methods mentioned above.
If Proactiv is working for you, then awesome. But do keep in mind that it's more of a repressive system, where it's pushing everything down into your pores, rather than detoxifying and removing them. As soon as you quit the system, you may likely experience breakouts again.
One thing that I LOVE is using a retinol. My favorite of those I have tried has been Peter Thomas Roth's Retinol Night Fusion PM. It's a water-like liquid that you spread over your face and that helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles, evens out tone and skin texture, and it's helped me a LOT with controlling my acne. It's lightweight so it doesn't clog my pores. Make sure you use a SPF during the day!
Have you ever maybe considered investing in a Clarisonic? Those things are life changing. They deeply clean your pores so the products you use can penetrate deeper than as if you weren't using one.
I feel like a broken record because I've said this so many times on this forum, but make sure to change your pillowcases often. Either every other day, or every night place a fresh towel over your cases and sleep on that. It really makes a HUGE difference. You have no idea how much dirt and oil from your hair is soaked into your pillowcases and absorbed into your skin.
A product I have been loving is Algenist Firming and Lifting Cream. It's lightweight enough for acne-prone skin, and helps with firming and contouring the skin. It's a bit pricey, but I love it. Another product I have been loving is Dior Capture Totale One Essential serum. That serum does everything from detoxifying, anti-aging, brightening, firming, uneven tone, etc. It's another pricey serum, but it really does wonders. Since it detoxifies the pores, it's been a god-send on preventing breakouts with me.
Hey! Ok, I think it is really important that you use porducts that don't strip your face of natural oils altogether, cos this will make the wrinkles worse! I know I know, I too have mega oily skin and shine so it wouid SEEM to make more sense if you used products that dried but this is sooo bad for ALL skin types! I personally believe Dermalogica products are miracle workers for every skin related problem. they are pricey but worth it
Also, try and make sure to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day..dehydrated skin shows wrinkles even more!
Good luck! :)
I have found a very inexpensive way to combat my black heads and huge pores but the wrinkles are still a problem. For the black heads and huge pores 1)wash face with antibacterial soap (yes, I said it. SOAP) but make sure you use liquid soap. I believe that bar soaps sit in water near your sink all day long and just absorb bacteria. 2) Apply store brand 5% or 10% benzoyl peroxide very sparingly to areas that are heavily populated with black heads. Mine are my nose and cheek areas. I say use this in a very thin layer because benzoyl peroxide can lead to some serious skin irritation and don't use it if you have sensitive skin. And that is it. I have been doing this twice a day for three weeks and the black heads are very diminished and my pores that were so huge in these areas are also shrinking. For my crow's feet and the eleven between my eyes I have been using Strivectin also twice daily. My oily skin and black heads are responding alot faster than are my wrinkles. Twice weekly I use and apricot scrub to loosen black heads and other debris that has built up but other times I use a clean wash cloth or just my clean hands to wash my face. It is most important when drying my face that I use a clean hand towel every single time. I also agree whole heartedly about clean pillow cases every one to two days.
Thanks so much you guys. I will try out the retinols and see how that works. One thing I'm lucky to have is non-sensitive skin so at least I dont get burned or irritated with products.
