I think your natural color is beautiful.  If you want to do what you propose, I would have it done professionally.  It sounds like a complex process.

I think that the red would look beautiful underneath your blonde. 

I am a cosmetologist and I just wanted to point out a few tips so you can get the result you are looking for.

First off, A semi permanent color will work awesome.  You will need to make sure that you are getting the correct undertones to enhance the red because blonde hair is like a blank canvas, it needs to be filled with the correct undertones such as red, orange, copper and gold to achieve a beautiful result.  Make sure that the color you are using has the colors mentioned above and stay away from any ash.

Please do a strand test, this will help you to determine if you have the correct hair color.

If you apply the color and its to red for your liking, you can always go over it with a neutral color to help balance the tones.

Last but not least, when I am preforming a darker color on bottom, Instead of taking a straight line across the bottom I take large zig zag sections.  I start at one temple and following it all the way along the back of the head to the other temple,  section top part of hair up. This way you don't have a distinct line of lighter and darker, it blends better

Thank you both so much for the help! I am definitely going to do a strand test before, just incase lol. I'm going to try to research this some more also, just for future reference. For if I ever want to do another color. I've considering using some of the ash tones, but everyone tells me to stay away from them because my hair will come out a strange pink color. From the color on the boxes that I chose, I'm going to probably keep the dye on for about five minutes first. If it's too light I'll go over it again for another five minutes (since it says it only requires 10 mins). I want to make sure that it eventually does wash out. In the past I've had issues with semi-permanent never washing out. I assume it might have been due to my hair being incredibly damaged on the ends where I applied it. That shouldn't be an issue this time.

Having been a licensed Cosmetologist in the beauty industry and specializing in color, I feel aweful NOT letting you know a few facts about haircolor that sadly is readily available for consumers everywhere that are lead to believe that doing-it-yourself is so easy...and it very well can be but it is highly recommended to have a professional do it for you.  Don't misunderstand though, I do not knock the color companies that manufacture the pre-packaged color as they are the very same people many licensed Cosmetologists as myself utilize or have for thier particular, "favorite brand", they feel the most comfortable using, have been educated about THAT specific brand, and are more than not ARE very good products.

Generally speaking all color brands have one thing in common: knowledge of what is commonly known as the color wheel which gets down to the REAL behind the scenes complexity of coloring hair in itself. What you see on the box versions may not always be the outcome on YOUR hair depending on your own natural underlying tones, the porosity of your hair, the length, the way in which it is applied-ALL factor in to what the final result will be.

The above product you've mentioned says it's Amonia-Free" right? Does-not however mention anything about peroxide though does it?   The word "semi"  means that it is supposed to last oh about a month given you have a good product but where it get's tricky is that if perhaps your hair is what we refer to as "adult-hair" meaning it's longer in length and has seen it's days of heat styling or even the sun, environment,& even having naturally curly hair can possibly make your hair suck it up like a sponge and last alot longer. Worst case senario will "semi wash out"! ( leaving behind an un-natural hue.)  Not only that but being that semi-permanent NEEDS something, (peroxide or ammonia) in order to prevent it from washing out.  The level of peroxide of peroxide and/or ammonia is much smaller in percentage than the adverage permanent hair color but remember this: you inadvertently no longer have virgin hair, it has now been processed and the next time you do it is where you will may undoubtedly see visible results in the strand especially if you just pull it through from roots to end as the ends of your hair, (especially after being previously processed), can actually hold that color almost as well as a permanent version....again it all depends on the many factors mentioned above.  The best possible advise is to follow the instructions on the box or inner instructions that are normally utilized to test for an allergic reaction but will let you see for yourself EXACTLY what you are going to end up with. Take a strand of hair and after reading the instructions thoroughly only mix a tiny bit , ( if there is more than one product in the box just mix according to directions which usually is either equal parts), OR if there is perhaps just one , just take out like a half of a teaspoon and you can either take just a few strands and carefully hold a slice of foil while applying the now pre-mixed, ready to go color onto the selected strands of hair, (and wrap the foil around it so it does not stain the rest of the hair around it) OR snip a piece of hair from someplace like behind the ear or anywhere it will be un-noticeable, lay it on a piece of foil and then apply it and leave it the recommended time, gently yet very thouroughly rinse it out , dry it and see for yourself what you will end up with.  The only thing you will not be able to tell is what the future holds as far as how long it will stay in your hair and let's not forget-your hair will be processed.

I hope none of this has scared you. It shouldn't. Hair color is wonderful, it's part of the fun we as women have the freedom to do to enhance our own color, express our sassy personality or just something new and differrent for a change. I am merely a compassionate person who is equally passionate about haircolor and wanted to give you the insight you were requesting in order to make a more knowledgeable decision upon.
