Anyone 50+ have any information or advice conceerning the use of Bio-Identical Hormones? I am in the southern West Virignia/Western Virginia area and very interested in the possibilities, base on everything I've read... I would now like to know of some real people who are doing it (or have done it), and what their experiences are/have been, the costs, results, time-frame, insurance issues, side effects, etc.

I have been on bio-identical hormones for a 1 month. What an awesome & positive experience! My gyn sent me to a lab to check my levels of: estrogen, progesterone, testosterone (yes ladies, we also need a bit of this), DHEA, GABA & thyroid. The results were sent to a local compounding pharmacy (my choice) where I had completed an extensive questionnaire regarding my symptoms, etc. I use 3 different prescriptions, formulated just for my system and symptoms. The testosterone is formulated in a cream which I apply vaginally daily; the estrogen is in a facial lotion formulated with glycolic acid (amazing results for my skin as well!) and the progesterone is in a cream which I apply to the inside of my forearms. Within 3-4 weeks I noted improvement in my mood and decreased physical symptoms such as bloating, water retention. This pharmacy ships. so one does not have to live in Delaware to benefit from the expertise and knowledge of the staff. I am delighted as if these results are after a few weeks, it will only improve with time!!
