Makeup
I'm fourteen years old and I want to start wearing makeup, but I don't want to wear anything too expensive or that will make me look like a clown... Any ideas? :)

how about keeping it simple by using a little blush and little lip gloss.
Luckily you can get great makeup at the drugstore these days. I would keep it really simple, maybe some concealer or sheer foundation if you have pimples or dark cirlces to cover up, otherwise you can skip those all together. Then just a little blush (make sure to blend really well so you don't have any lines or circles on your face), some mascara (brown is more natural looking than black) and a clear or lightly tinted lip gloss should be all you need. If you want to play around with eyeshadows or liners I would say to start with a light application -- it's easy to add more but a pain to remove it if you add too much! And make sure to blend, blend, blend so you don't have any harsh lines. Have fun!
First and foremost, find out what kind of skin you have. I know you're a teenager, but I don't want to automatically assume that you have oily acne-prone skin. Is your skin normal where you don't have much problems with dry spots or oil? Do you have very oily skin? Dry spots? Combination or sensitive?
What color is your skin? Is it warmer (with yellow tones) or cooler (with pinker tones)? Makeup is about having fun and improving your look, but this is useful to finding the BEST colors to make you look your best.
To know what kind of skin you have is the best way to look for the best makeup for your skin. Of course at your age, you skin is likely to change up a bit, so keep observing over time.
I recommend getting a primer for your skin. Hard Candy has a line of inexpensive primers for you face that will help control some oil and help keep your foundation on longer. Make sure you moisturize your clean skin prior to putting on a primer. Let your moisturizer set for a few minutes prior to applying primer, and then let your primer set for a minute to best get the benefits of priming. Try investing in a eyelid primer if you want to wear eyeshadow. BEST thing ever to keep eye makeup from flaking, creasing, etc.
As for foundation, for teenage skin, definitely aim for oil free foundation. If you have dryer skin, try going more for liquid foundation. If you have more oily skin, try going for more of a powder foundation. I recommend getting a kabuki brush (like ecotools) and buffing the powder into your skin in circular motions to best blend the makeup and keep it from looking cakey or powdery. Try to avoid using the puff that comes with most powders unless you need a quick touch-up.
Naturally, keep practicing! It takes most people years before the master the art of applying makeup (yes, it's an art, no different than painting, because you ARE painting your face. ;) ). Keep researching online if you're not sure. If you're curious about a product, try researching first at what other people say about the product before you buy it. You don't want to waste your money on a lot of bogus products that are out there.
Most importantly, taking care of your skin will make makeup MUCH more cooperative with your skin, so much easier applying too! At the end of the day, make sure you remove the makeup well. Use a good makeup removing wash or wipes. Exfoliate your skin a few times a week to remove excess dead skin that will clog your pores and lead to more severe acne, especially at this time in your life. I also like using a weekly mask like Queen Helene Mint Julep ($4) to purge my pores and remove oil. It also dries up acne. It is a MIRACLE for my skin. A no brainer is to drink a lot of water. Your body will thank you for that. Another tip is to sleep with clean pillowcases too! Either wash them every other day, or sleep with a fresh towel over your pillow ever night. This keeps your face from soaking up oils that have been left on the pillows from your hair, face, etc. Plus there's other nasty stuff that gets on your pillowcases as well.
I know this is a LOT of information, but when I was your age I didn't know any of this stuff so I wasted a lot of my allowance buying products that were awful or didn't work for me. This is only the basic information, there's so much information out there, it will make your head spin!
Basically to sum everything up, there's a lot you can do to make sure that applying makeup is as easy as possible. It goes deeper than suggesting what products are good for you, it's a lifestyle to develop to maintain your skin. Good luck and feel free to ask us anything!
Hey there. I would suggest you get something that wont look too obvious but at the same time makeup that will enchance your natural beauty.
Head to you nearest local store and grab a couple of these items.
1. Tinted moisturizer. I suggest using this rather than caking up on foundation since you're just getting started. and plus it allows your skin to look rather glowy.
2. Concealer. Grab a shade slightly lighter than your actual skin tone to get rid of those dark eye circles. Use sparingly. too much will only cake things up.
3. Loose Powder. Use only a little to set the tinted moisturizer and concealer in place. Avoid using too much.
4. EYELASH CURLER!. you will notice how much brighter and bigger your eyes will be after you've curled them
5. Mascara. Too define and get those gorgeous lashes and also bigger awaken eyes.
6. Blusher. Get it in a tone where it matches your natural flush. Smile and pop it on those apples. Dont over use or you will end up looking like a clown.
and lastly imm sure you own lipbalms and lipglosses. Complete it with a moisturizing lipbalm. or for a little sheen just pop on some lipgloss.
Check out your local drugstores to get cheaper deals and prices. Know the sensitivity of your skin and your skin type cause you certainly do not want breakouts due to sensitivity reaction at the end of the day.
Owh.. groom your eyebrows. Get it done on your own if you can. There are many websites and video's that shows you how to do it or you can get your mom if she's free. Just Dont Overpluck it. =)
All the best. Stay Pretty and Awesome
Loves.
I agree with Sarah, keep it simple. Light concealer if you have a couple of pimples or dark circles under your eyes ... no need for foundation yet in my opinion. I love check stains rather than powder blush because they rub on really easily and look more natural too. When I was 14 I would wear a little bit of eye shadow, mascara and eye liner but not too much and typically light colors like a soft gold shimmer, etc. I think lip gloss is more appropriate at your age than lipstick too (I didn't start wearing lipstick till I was 26).
Hope that helps and good luck!
I started wearing makeup when I was 12. Didn't get a lot of the color stuff til I was 14. However, don't make the same mistakes I made. Don't go for bold eye shadow or lip color. Just use basics: foundation, powder, blush, mascara, lip gloss. If you want to wear eye shadow, go for lighter shades such as champagne, mauve, and light pink.
if you want simple makeup, mascara and lipgloss are the only things you need to use!! use concealer to cover up pimples and dark circles and foundation to even skin tone. play around with blush and eyeshadow and find colours thats suit you best. havefun :)
Use tinted moisturizer and/or concealer as needed. When I was a tee, I made the mistake of caking on foundation and concealer and powder, and it looked pretty bad.
Use a sheer shimmer shadow in a neutral shade. Skip the eyeliner, but throw on a little mascara (clear or brown).
A sheer or very slightly tinted gloss is also good. Or a lightly tinted lip balm.
You've already received some excellent help. I just want to add that Benefit has a product you put on your eyelids to give a good base for your eyeshadows. It's called Lemon Aid. It's yellow and neutralizes red lids.
Also use a great mascara from L'Oreal. It's new. It has a roller ball application, resulting in curling your lashes as you apply the mascara.
At your age I would not use eye liner.
Also, after washing your face at night, using a gentle cleanser, be sure to moisturize after. There are hundreds on the market in drugstores. Try Aveeno. You can also get skin care products at ULTA. Check their website because they always have coupons, and you can get therefore get a discount. Also check their Sunday paper flyer which usually has a coupon for $3.50 off.
And, don't forget to remove any eye makeup with a good remover, like L'Oreal or Almay, both available at a drugstore.
