I want to get my style on in 2011 but don't want to spend a whole bunch of cash and then have the stuff I bought go right out of style. I am curious what everyone thinks, I found this cool article on upcoming trends: http://shesgotgroove.com/2011/01/13/10-fashion-predictions-2011/
4 RepliesI really think that style is a matter of personal preference. It also depends on your lifestyle and other factors. Maybe you could gradually incorporate a few trends into your wardrobe, like bright makeup, or a big sweater and leggings, but never base your entire wardrobe off of a trend. I always have a few go-to pieces that I can pair with anything: black dress, a pair of black slacks, black leggings, a few basic pairs of boots and heels, etc. If you keep basic things on hand, pairing them with a new trend will be easy, and you won' t have to spend a lot of money.
i am a huge fan of DIY style because you get something that noone else has, and that is just COOL. so i would suggest making your own things. Like wear a basic outfit [ ex. plain tee shirt and jeans] and basic makeup [ ex. browns] and add flair with some DIY accesories.
1- Ribbon Necklaces.
Just get a piece of ribbon long enough to go around your neck. Glue on a few fun, bright beads.
2- Yarn bracelets.
Take an old bangle bracelet and wrap it with embroidery floss!
3- Earrings.
Take a pair of hoop earrings and string on a few beads. The good thing about these is that you can remove the beads and put different ones at any time!
Hope that helped/

Here's another round up of the big trends in 2011: http://www.beautyriot.com/fashion/10-trends-try-2011-g7931 But it really does come down to your personal style, I know when I try a trend that's not really "me," it just feels forced and looks awkward. But I will say there are a few trends (like long skirts and messy/natural makeup) that I'm pretty excited to try.
I did a quick look at the webpage/article provided and my first thought was "we're back to the 80's!" LOL I agree that "style" can be whatever you want it to be and tends to be a more personal thing (something the fashion world probably doesn't want to hear!). We all look throught he magazines, etc. but I think we take from them what we want and create our own style with what we have. A good rule of thumb is: if you really like something in your closet/makeup drawer, etc., just HOLD ONTO IT. If it goes OUT of style, it will likely COME BACK in a short time!
