Do Commercial Air Conditioning Systems Run the Same as Residential?
An air conditioner is a system that is used to cool down space by removing heat from the space and moving it to some outside area. The cool air can then be moved throughout the building with the use of ventilation.
Air conditioners come in different sizes and shapes. As the sizes and shapes are different so are the capacities. There are air conditioners for commercial purposes and those for residential use. Commercial air conditioning is used in commercial settings while residential air conditioning is used in residential settings. Do commercial air conditioners function the same as residential air conditioners? Let's find out.
The first thing to note is, both commercial and residential air conditioners do the same job which is to heat and cool the environment they are installed in. However, there are differences;
Different in size and operating capacity.
The commercial HVAC systems are larger than residential air conditioning systems. This is understandable, as the larger systems are needed to service the commercial building; there is an increased production of heat in the commercial buildings, which is cooled down by the large commercial HVAC system. Therefore, if you install a residential air conditioner in a commercial building it will not produce the desired result.
The complexity of the HVAC systems.
The work expected of a commercial Air Conditioning system is far more complex. As a result, the system is built to meet the complex needs of the commercial environment. On the other hand, a residential HVAC does not do complex work.
Different Drainage, Exhaust, and Ventilation
A commercial HVAC system has a large drainage component as it has more parts to accommodate the large amount of condensate produced by the larger system. The commercial air conditioning system has a detailed drainage system with many pans and pipes to ensure the system is draining properly. On the other hand, a residential air conditioning system normally drains into one pan place outside the home.
Manufacture and Installation
Though they perform the same functions, they are manufactured in different ways to fit the environment in which they are used. Commercial air conditioning systems are tailor suited for the commercial environment so also is the residential air conditioning system. Also, the installation method defers.
The Maintenance Costs are not the same.
The cost of maintaining the commercial HVAC system is far higher than residential air conditioners. Home-owners can carry out maintenance works by themselves sometimes, but this is not the case for commercial HVAC systems. At all times it needs professional servicing.
