Pro Skincare Hacks For Cold Season

The unfortunate thing about cold weather--and there are many, many unfortunate things, is that it brings about actual colds. Along with dry skin, chapped lips, windburned cheeks, cracked knuckles, and literally everything cold and wet and yucky about winter, it is prime cold season on top of it all.
When your body is worn down and you’re hopped up on sinus medicine, the last thing you probably feel like doing is a full-on winter skincare routine. Which is why it’s so *amazing* that you don’t have to put in a ton of effort to take care of your skin while you’re tackling that cold. Blowing your nose a million times a day can leave your skin feeling dry and chapped. Medicines that serve to break up and dry up mucus can also totally deplete your skin of the moisture it needs.
When you look good, you feel good and vice-versa. Here are some expert tips to keep your skin looking great even when you’re under the weather.
Humidifiers are cold season multi-taskers
Dry, winter air pumping through the vents in your house means you stay nice and cozy. It also means your skin is completely robbed of essential moisture. Remember when you were a kid, and your mom would plug in the big ol’ humidifier to help you sleep better? Well, she was onto something. Using a humidifier in your room at night keeps moisture in the air, which maintains the hydration levels in your skin and your sinuses.
You simply can’t overdo it on the nose moisturizers
Drip, sniff, blow, wipe, repeat. ALL. DAY. When you’re sick, your nose might take the harshest beating of all. The friction from tissues and the constant blowing of your poor beak can make your nostrils and surrounding areas super red and dry. While you can buy tissues that contain lotion, it’s also a good idea to dab a little moisturizer on the irritated area a few times a day to comfort and soothe the redness. Even a little lip balm can do the trick! A cold gel mask for your skin and sinuses Ahhh. Can’t you just feel the instant relief of a nice, cool gel mask resting on your face when you’re puffy and congested? We can! If you use one regularly, these masks can help your skin maintain moisture and alleviate puffiness brought on by itchy, watery eyes and sinus pressure. Keep a gel mask in the fridge for an hour before use, and soothe your skin and a pounding head instantly.
Mint and eucalyptus are your new best friend
Peppermint, eucalyptus, and even spearmint and rosemary are all scents that can help clear a stuffy head. If you’re into essential oils, you can easily make your own all-natural rub with a few drops of oil mixed with two or three tablespoons of organic coconut oil. Dab some on your chest, under your nose, or even in the rim of your humidifier to stimulate circulation and open up your nasal passages
The many uses of a tea bag
Puffy, red-rimmed eyes are the result of fluid accumulation, which occurs because the tissue under your eyes is delicate and more loosely attached. Constricting the blood vessels under the skin can help reduce the appearance of puffiness due to congestion. One easy way to do that? Cold tea bags! Which is a perfect solution, because you’re more than likely already consuming tea when you don’t feel well. Just hang onto those bags when you’re finished with them, and apply them under your eye once they’re cold. Caffeine is a natural way to shrink swollen tissue and to tighten skin.
Gulp it up - water, that is Not only is water the perfect way to hydrate your entire body while flushing out toxins, it’s also great for your skin. Especially during winter/cold season. Drinking water also decreases puffiness and keeps your internal temperature down. When you’re not sipping on tea, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water while you’re feeling sick.
If you’ve fallen victim to cold and flu season, don’t worry. When you look good, you feel good and vice-versa. Here are some expert tips to keep your skin looking great even when you’re under the weather.
