My first Hits & Misses Post - Nails Edition

Hi everyone!

TB Newbie here with some of my hits and misses regarding nail polish/products. Just my own $.02, but hope some of you find them useful.
Cheers!

Hits
  • Chanel Le Vernis in Starlet: Read a review done by TheRAEviewer and fell in love with the color.  A versatile, feminine, salmon-y color that could work year round.  Chanel nail polish goes on so smoothly that it's hard to mess-up.  The narrow brush works well on my smaller fingers/nails.  The color is always so saturated that you only need 2 coats (versus the 3 required by some brands).  It is also formaldehyde-free, toluene-free and DBP-free. Granted, the price is high compared to other brands, but I found that these bottles last longer because I need fewer coats and make less mistakes.
  • My other favorite Chanel colors are: Pirate (a perfect, all-season red), Lilis (a very spring-summer appropriate coral/pink), and Accessoire (a great deep red brown that's good for winter).  My skin tone medium-light with yellow undertones (NC 20-25).
  • Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat: I think most everyone knows about this one, but in case you didn't..where have you been?!  This top coat makes your manicure look salon-shiney and perfect.  At first, I was afraid of applying it on still wet polish, but the thick consistency makes it glide on top of the last coat with no mixing or pulling.  And, boy, does it dry fast!
  • Sally Hansen Cuticle Eraser + Balm: I fly nearly every week for work, so my hands/nails get very dry if I neglect them.  After reading some reviews, I bought this and was amazed what it did with my raggedly, dry, ugly cuticles.  It made it easy to push down and trim the cuticles.  A plus - smells great!
Misses
  • Ruby Wing Color Changing Polish in Peony: On a whim, I bought this "concept" polish after reading a Birchbox blog about it.  Right out of the bottle, the consistency was a little goopy and grainy.  It did not go on smoothly and took forever to dry (with lots of streaks).  I didn't even get to try the color change because it did not look good enough to be out in publish with.  Maybe I picked the wrong color or applied it wrong.  Some reviewers really liked it, but it was a definite miss for me.
Jury's Still Out:
  • Dior Nail Glow:  Again, I was taken in by the marketing and description.  Supposedly, it makes your naturals nails "glow" by making the whites whiter and the pink area pinker.  Perhaps this is the case on perfect, healthy longer nails, but my whites were not whiter.  The pink area definitely looked pinker, but not in a natural way.  The shine was nice though, but I would have gotten the same effect with a clear polish.  I'm going to try again once my nails have grown out. This may look nice on other nails that have different natural coloration.  Have any of you tried it?
  • Tom Ford Nail Lacquer in Smoke Red: Like Chanel in quality (but a little more expensive), the color is a very pretty, kind of vampy red.  I just don't know if I'd pay the extra $ above and beyond Chanel for similar quality.
