The start of something new <3
Here we go my first blog :D ahah well I have recently given up my hobby that quickly became my life after the 9 years of doing it. I was a committed dancer from when I started at the age of five and being at my dance studio once a week for not even on hour ( more like 30mins ) it turned into 4 nights a week. Some nights at the studio were shorter than other most 3 out of the 4 days I was there until 8:30. It effected my homework time and even some time to have with my friends I knew from the get go I didn't want to be a professional dancer but I loved that studio so much I couldn't work up the nerve to leave. So I missed out on school sports and could sign up for student council, year book , and although I was apart of national junior honor society I could really help out with extra events they held unless they were during school hours. I sacrificed several things I saw my self doing once I reached middle school just because I did love dance and everybody at that studio so much and it was a commitment to be there so I could skip out on practices . So now that I have graduated middle school I didn't want to miss out on anything that could make my 4 years of high school any better. So I applied for a spot for one of my high schools programs they offer to help learning for things in the health field. I also made the decision to quit dance not only will it give me the freedom and free time but also the studio wasn't to conscious of how us dancers got our homework done when we spend so much time there. But with being on a cheer team for the school the hours of practice wont change and they will be short and the level of commitment you have will just show through how much you love it and not how many days a week you spend at practice (not saying that's what my studio believed ). Cheer was the closest alternative to dance for me and I wanted to be more involved in my school so I know that was the way to go ! Although I will miss every one at my dance studio but its summer and I will keep in touch and see all the studio's performances. :) So basically what I am trying to say is its always good to try new things no matter how lost you think you may be if you quit something that you have stuck with for a long time. If your happy with what your doing then by all means stick with it and hope its going well for you but if not consider your options because there is always something that you can make better for yourself :)

I admire your commitment! I was trained in ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance. I gave it up in high school to be a "squad girl." I never forgot the privileges that gave me (I was able to perform at pep assemblies, choreograph routines for others, etc.). I look back and am very, very grateful that I was trained in danced. Not only do your learn moves, but I was at most most agile then and at my most disciplined point. I walked beautifully and stood straight. Good for you for doing what you believe is right! In high school you have to trade what you want for what fits in your schedule. I kept straight A's through high school despite the continual squad practices. But every time I'm in a school auditorium or on a football field (which is often, since I teach at a college prep academy), I am grateful for all of the years of training I had. The BEST of luck to you, sweetie!
