Beauty is Skin Deep?

I always saw myself as an okay or at times pretty girl. I thought I had a pleasant face with many flaws. I saw the flaws with my crooked teeth, and my sightly scarred face with acne problems (I fell on a big rock where anemones and mussels are on). I just was never comfortable in my own skin. I thought I would be beautiful if I can fix these flaws. As time went on, my appearance changed such as I wore braces, and my scar and acne was fading. Even with my flaws disappearing, I was never happy. I realized a little too late that beauty was never my outside appearance. My beauty was and is within me. I still have problems with it today, but I tell myself that I am beautiful and that I need to walk with my head held high with no shame in my beauty. I know everyone always say that confidence is what beauty is...well they are right. Beauty is not appearances, but it is how you feel about yourself. If you feel beautiful, then you are beautiful. Ladies and gentlemen, love yourself because in the end, you are the one who looks in the mirror and judge your own self. Look in the mirror and be proud for the reflection that is staring back at you.

Great post and something we all know but have forgotten or has got buried under the creams, serums and makeup. In this photoshopped era it is hard to keep reminding yourself but we all do need to try and remember these simple words.

Hi Tina! I agree with you 200%! You need to make yourself happy...can't "make improvements" if the improvements don't make YOU happy! Do what you want, wear what you want...sing while walking down the supermarket aisle! Smile at everyone! Be happy with who you are inside, and you will be happy with you on the outside! Beauty is secondary to what's inside!

Very well written! I agree and it is important to focus on how you feel, not how you look. Women's bodies and faces are constantly changing and aging and in the end everyone is going to get old. There are many people who appear to prolong this process with endless injections and so-called miracle products. More power to those people, but if you're not one of them that's OK too. I also suffer from acne and acne scars and I finally accept that it will probably always be that way and now I spend that time and energy doing things, rather than worrying. Beauty comes in all sizes, shapes, and colors and there should never be one set standard that applies to everyone. Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.
