Tip of the Week - Recycle Your Glass Jars

When you buy some foods like jellies, jams, pickles and pasta sauces remember to recycle these jars. Not just by putting them into your recycle bin, but by putting them into your dishwasher and reusing them for your own homemade pasta sauces, salsas and any other foods you can imagine. You can even save some of your glass containers from your juices to use for your homemade smoothies, teas or water with lemon. It's better for your health to reuse glass jars than plastic containers. There are some plastics that are safer to use than others, but if you can use a glass jar, that is still safer. They are also easy to clean in your dishwasher as long as you remove the labels from the jars. You can get any glue from the jars off by soaking a paper towel with vinegar and laying it on the glue for at least 1 hour. Then it should help you to remove the glue. If not, I've heard that some furniture polishes will remove the glues but make sure you wash the jar very well so you won't get any of the chemicals on your foods. You can also use smaller jars to store your own homemade creams and scrubs.

Have you tried rubbing alcohol to remove glue? It works to take adhesive residues from your skin, so it might work on glass, too. I reuse drink bottles to make my homemade fruit teas, but I make sure that I don't take them in the car with me.
