il_570xN.190820940.jpgYou have to love Etsy for their ever so crafty artists. One of my favorite things to do is browse (and buy) their home made hair and body care products. They have the coolest selection of natural, green, and eco-friendly bath products. From fluffy whipped shea butters to natural hand made shampoos and beyond.

One late night while sipping a cup of tea and searching Etsy I discovered a really cool product: Salty DAWG Whipped Cream Shampoo made by Gudonya (good on ya). I was so intrigued by this non-liquid, fluffy, creamy, lotion like shampoo made from salt…yes salt. I had to try this!

The picture was enough to make me want to make a purchase. It looked so good, like cake frosting, how could I resist? They have great reviews and loyal customers. I bought the ACAI ACAI sent. Here is my experience:

Although this product is not 100% natural, it’s not that bad as far as the ingredients go. It is scented, but you can order unscented and color-free. I wanted to try it with some nice fragrance for my first time and chose the ACAI ACAI scent. The smell is great, and I didn’t experience any irritation – probably because it’s not overly loaded with chemical ingredients.

The base is made from salt, so it feels like a whipped cream body scrub, except that the salt melts right when you apply it to the hair. They have added a gentle surfactant to help with the cleansing, and also some chelators which help wash away hard water minerals.

The product was fun to use, it produced great foam, and had a nice glide while I washed my hair. It rinsed out easily and left my hair smelling delicious. I conditioned my hair with Aveda Scalp Benefits. When my hair dried it was prefect. There were no fly aways/static (a common problem I have with natural shampoos) and my hair was soft and silky.

I have also used this to shave my legs. I like that it gives a quick exfoliate and then melts allowing me to shave.

The one problem: Build up. I noticed after about a week and a half my hair was getting build up. Dry, waxy texture, etc. I used a clarifying shampoo, and then used the Salty DAWG Whipped Cream Shampoo again and had awesome hair once again.

All hair products will eventually cause build up. Salty DAWG Whipped Cream Shampoo seemed to cause faster build up than most products. Not a big deal really.

I really liked this shampoo. It was a great alternative to traditional shampoos, and fun to use. My kids loved it too. My friend has three girls who are mixed (black/white) and have very tight, slightly kinky curls. She swears by this, and only uses it on their hair now.

I hope you like my review. Sneak on over to the Gudonya Salty Dawg Etsy shop and check out their yummy shampoos, and other goodies.

PS: I just discovered a new scent: Chocolate covered bananas! Oh my!
