Dream Curls
Recently I got some great hair stylist advice, and I can't keep it to myself!
This is me before:
Out-of-control curls and endless frizz. This was taken during the summer, when I wouldn't dare try a blow dryer or flat iron in fear of ending up with a 12 inch afro.
This is me now:
I have never been so happy with my hair! I now have the best curls ever! And the greatest part is it is SO easy for me to rock this style every day! And, I love that I have a hairstyle that holds up -- because I'm not creating a style, just enhancing the one I already have!
I am lucky because I have natural waves/curls. So, for you straight-haired girls, I'm sorry but I'm not sure this style is for you. If you are trying to go curly, check out these tips for curling straight hair. If you're a naturally wavy girl -- read on.
Step 1: Wash your hair with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. I personally love John Frieda products.
Step 2: Wrap a towel around your head to absorb the moisture. Don't rub or wring it out, that can cause breakage.
Step 3: Lightly spray a leave-in conditioner (again I prefer John Frieda) and then just let it air dry. Usually, I'll wash my hair an hour or so before bed and go to sleep with it damp. If you don't have time to let it dry completely, try using a diffuser on a low setting to dry it.
Step 4: Take a 1.5 - 2 inch curling iron and warm it up to high heat.
Step 5: Start at the front and move around your head -- pick out some of your natural curls from the top layer of your hair and wrap them around the barrel of the curling iron, holding in place with your finger. Wait 15 seconds and unwrap, pulling down. Go all the way around the top layer.
If you want to add some extra body underneath, pull out a few curls from the underside of your hair and wrap those around the iron as well. You'll want to just enhance the most visible sections of your natural curls, so it looks like you've styled your whole head but it doesn't take a lot of time.
The secret is to wrap at different lengths, so your curls don't all fall in the same place. I usually wrap my front curls all the way around the barrel, and then just wrap the bottom 2-3 inches of my longer layers. I also try to pull out different sized curl sections -- so I end up with some big, full curls and some smaller ones as well.
Step 6: Lightly smooth some argan oil or a shine spray over your hair. Finish with hairspray and you're good to go!
Good luck, let me know how this works for you!
