Where your loyalty lies...

I envy any woman who around age 25 finds the cleanser, foundation, perfume, or makeup remover that she will go on to use for the next 10 to 20 years. It shows how committed she is to her beauty routine and how loyal she is to the product the loves. The words “my favorite product” have never really meant anything coming from me because if I’ve ever uttered the words out loud (or online) I actually meant “my favorite product right now.” The only thing I’ve really been loyal to was the purchase of said beauty products.

I blame my lack of loyalty primarily in part to my obsessive need to want to try the latest and greatest products targeted towards my desired beauty goals. Banishment of acne reins number one on the list every single time. There was always something newer and "better" on the market and I felt as though I should “test” as many as I could to see what works for me. (In case some of you didn’t catch that, I have a shopping problem-a compulsive shopping problem.)

Secondly, I blame my skin; I just couldn’t get it to cooperate. I used to have the most horrible acne, post acne scars, and oily uneven skin tone. I couldn't afford a dermatologist in my early 20's so I had to rely on advice I would find online and in magazines to help me choose products. When I got a real job and started to see professionals, I learned that switching products overnight is very, very bad for your skin. I had to cut back on jumping from this to that, finding something I like, can afford, and forcing myself to be patient enough to see if it actually works. In my book, the purchase of the a particular product 3 or more times IS loyalty, so I started thinking of things I already use and some of the things I have now that I might want to keep around.

Dove deodorant: It just works for me. The Invisible solid isn’t exactly invisible but, like I said: it works for me. I sweat everywhere else except under my arms, even in 140 degree weather.

Victoria's Secret Pink: I get more compliments from both sexes when I wear this, more than any other scent. I have to switch it up every now and again because I don't want to become immune to it.

Ivory soap (the bar): Extremely affordable, gets me clean, and my brother doesn’t complain about it being a girly soap. Win-win situation going on here.

Now, the products that I really like and are about to make the cut:

Borhgese Fango Active Mud for Face and Body: This mask is amazing. Used consistently, it makes your skin brighter and smoother. Got a pimple? Put this on and let it dry before jumping in the bed….who, huh…uh…what pimple? Plus the jar will last FOREVER.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum: I am willing to bet money that this helped with some of the damage (as in holes) on my cheeks from earlier acne. After a few weeks, my face started to look and feel better.

Palmers Skin Success Eventone Complexion Soap: This actually surprised me. I started using it a few months ago and noticed that a lot of the post acne scars that I have are either gone or almost gone. Best thing about it, it’s only $2.99. It kind of upsets me when I think about all the money I’ve spent on (expensive) products that didn’t work.

I’m sure some of you are better at this than I am. Tell me some of the products you are loyal to…

I, too, am a beauty product aholic.  I have a passion for eyeshadow.   I like to play up my eyes because they are my best feature.  I really go crazy for palettes, like Sephora, ULTA, Cargo and Urban Decay and Too Faced. I also love fragrance - Katy Perry Purr, Marc Jacobs Daisy and the best - the Juicy Couture line, especially Viva La Juicy and Peace, Love and Juicy Couture.  I have scotties, and their logo is 2 scotties in profile. I am most loyal to Too Faced products.  I have 4 different eye shadow kits, eye primer, and about 5 other adorably packaged shadow and blush kits.  I also use Kat Von D under eye concealer.  It's the best, with Benefit Erase Paste close behind.  I actually ended up mixing the 2 together in a little container. It's fun, isn't it! Carole VonAllten

I know exactly how you feel about changing up products but for the last couple of weeks, I've been doing the same routine using the same products and I feel better and more confident knowing I don't have to keep buying new items to keep me happy about my appearance. I have everything I need! Now I can buy clothes x)
